As a side note we have found that many people know what offset printing is but are unsure why it’s called offset. The answer to this question is at the point in an offset printing press that the image is transferred from the plate, which is made from a negative, to the blanket, a rubber matt type material, and finally to the sheet or paper. The roller system transferring the image from positive to negative to positive on the sheet or “offsetting” the image is why the term “offset” printing is used. Offset printing was the industry revolution that shifted the industry away from letterpress. Offset is faster in set-up and in press speed. As you will find out however, In To Ink is taking great pride in revitalizing letterpress printing.
